Boundaries of Belonging in Memory, Politics, and Schools [Keynote]
In this keynote at the Computational Social Science Satellite of CCS 2025, Cristian Candia connected three CRiSS-LAB research areas: collective memory, political polarization, and school coexistence.
The talk asked how small-scale interactions can accumulate into broader boundaries of belonging. Across domains, individual acts of remembering, choosing, recognizing, or cooperating can scale into collective patterns of cohesion, fragmentation, inclusion, and exclusion.
The presentation used empirical evidence and computational models to show how related questions can be studied across very different social systems.
